February 11, 2026 – Attorney General Dave Sunday joined a bipartisan coalition of 40 attorneys general in urging Congressional leadership to pass the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA).
The letter was sent to House and Senate leadership ahead of potential consideration of the House version of KOSA, H.R. 6484, which limits states’ authority to enact laws and regulations related to online safety.
The attorneys general expressed support for the Senate version of KOSA, S. 1748, which includes a Duty of Care requirement and preserves states’ authority to enforce and strengthen online protections for minors.
Attorney General Sunday has pursued online child protection efforts at the state level. The Office of Attorney General has filed charges under a state statute prohibiting the use of artificial intelligence to generate child sexual abuse material. Sunday also led two bipartisan multistate letters to Google, Meta, and other companies regarding chatbot quality control, and to xAI regarding features added to its AI tool Grok that allowed for the creation of nonconsensual intimate images.
State attorneys general offices across the country have launched investigations and lawsuits against social media platforms, including Meta and TikTok, regarding the targeting of underage users and the impact of addictive design features on children and teens.
In a statement, Sunday said Congress has an opportunity and responsibility to prioritize children’s online safety and noted the documented harms associated with extended social media use.
The letter was sent alongside the attorneys general of Connecticut, Hawaii, Ohio, and Tennessee, as well as officials from American Samoa, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Wyoming.
